II.2.1) Total quantity or scope: The scheme is to refurbish the Dolphin
Leisure Centre, located in the centre of Darlington. The works to
include, amongst others, the construction of a multi functional soft play
and sensory area, the refurbishment of changing facilities, the
refurbishment of the reception area and circulation areas, partial
remodelling of the entrance facade, alteration of the bar area into a new
bar/bistro area, relocation of meeting rooms, construction of new stair
way to all floors, alterations/upgrades to mechanical and electrical
services, the introduction of the Council's Registrar's services and some
structural infill/extension. The design of the project is underway and it
is envisaged that Early Contractor Involvement will be utilised for a 2
stage tender process. It is envisaged that the contract period will be in
the region of 60 weeks [with minimal closure] starting late 2005. The
overall value of the works is expected to be in the region of 4 000 000
GBP to 5 000 000 GBP.
